Extraordinary Pens – Montblanc Meisterstück 144

Pen #5 – 1950s Montblanc Meisterstück 144 piston-filler in light green straight striped celluloid. To match the body’s beauty, the nib is a broad, oblique italic. Overall condition is near mint. Note the difference in the green striped celluloid between pen #5 and pen #7 – the light green straight striped celluloid compared to green striped (also lovely, but quite different). We sometimes find great vintage pens, but discover the celluloid has discolored (perhaps through UV exposure/celluloid disease). This …

Extraordinary Pens – Montblanc L30

Montblanc still makes beautiful pens today, but if you want a truly stunning, unique celluloid Montblanc specimen, this 1930s L30 Meisterstück is a great one. Aside from the gorgeous celluloid, the pen is fitted with the original broad, oblique italic nib – excellent for signatures and expressive writing. While celluloid can discolor and fade, this particular pen is …

Handwritten Post: Vintage Pen Brands – Flexed!

I thought this post would be fun to show some flex while listing a few of the pen brands. My favorite happens to be Waterman, because my first vintage pen was a red ripple Waterman 52V with a F-BBB wet noodle flex nib. I’m still crazy about it. I later added a few Mabie Todds (Swan, Swallow, Blackbird), a Wahl-Eversharp (Skyline, Doric), Pelikan (400NN x 2), Montblanc (220, 22, 344), and in the Waterman range: 52V, …

Montblanc 149 Celluloid

Pen #19 is a 1955 Montblanc 149 piston-filler. Modern Montblancs are made of precious resin, which is indeed plastic. For those who are interested in the celluloid 149, this particular model is black celluloid with sterling silver outer cap bands. The clear celluloid windows tend to show wear and amber, but this window is still clean. The celluloid models have so much character that is hard for resin to capture!

Stunning Montblanc Green Striped Fountain Pen

Catalog #70 still has some really beautiful pens available. One such specimen is #179, a Montblanc Model 642 piston filler in the rare Green Stripe. It has a Brushed Silvexa stainless steel cap with gold-filled trim. The nib is a two-toned medium nib that is fully flexible. The stripe pattern is stunning; the two-tone scheme of the nib and cap a perfect complement. The pen is in near mint condition, with some minor cap surface …
