On Point With Go Pens #56

Is an oblique nib good for a left handed writer like myself? It can be, if the left-handed writer rotates the nib into the paper as they write, which is the intent of having a nib with the oblique tip. For left-handed writers, the oblique slant is typically in the opposite direction of those for right-handed righters (left oblique), so you would likely need a right oblique! If you haven’t already tried one, it’s a …

What is the white dot on my Sheaffer? That white dot is, according to Sheaffer, the globally recognized symbol of writing excellence and quality and prestige. It is an unmistakable mark of a Sheaffer pen!

On Point With Go Pens #51

If a pen is stained, does that mean it’s completely ruined? Not at all! Although visually, it may be damaged, the pen is not entirely ruined. It’s possible it can be restored and the stain(s) can be removed, and it also depends on the condition of the rest of the pen – the filling system, the trim, the material of the pen, and especially the nib. If it still works, and the stain cannot be …

Extraordinary Pens – Pregnant Parker

This 1910 Parker Model 47 Parker was nicknamed the “Pregnant Parker” because of the bulbous design of the alternating pearl slabs. These pearl slabs are soaked until soft so they can be so shaped – no doubt a delicate and time consuming process. There is a wonderful yellow, green, and red iridescence of the pearl. Gold-filled high relief repousse floral cap and barrel bands. This pen is an eyedropper-filler, and is one of the most …

On Point With Go Pens #50

I recently bought a pen case with really tight elastics – is this safe for my pens? Many people store their pens in cases with elastics (sometimes single bands, sometimes double), and it’s usually safe. However, if you have a delicate pen, whether it’s a fragile material, or in delicate condition, or something else, you may find struggling with a particularly snug elastic is not worth it. You should be careful when placing these pens …

Extraordinary Pens – La Plume D’Or Bibax

This 1924 La Plume D’Or is a very special pen. The Bibax capillary-fill Taper/Cone Cap in Red Mottled Hard Rubber is extremely rare. While the barrel is a hollow hard rubber tube, it is NOT an eyedropper-filler. How on earth does this pen fill, then? There are four long slots in the back of the feed. The filling design is to put the pen, nib down, into an ink supply, and the barrel fills through the principle …

On Point With Go Pens #49

Does a pen really adapt to your handwriting? There isn’t really one answer to this question. It depends who you ask! Since there are many vintage pens out there being purchased and reused, it’s safe to assume some of those pens have been used by people before, and are being reused. Their nibs may not have dramatically changed after being used by their first owners, but the owners themselves may adapt to the pens – …
