Ford Patent Pen Vintage Pen

This is a 1932 Ford “Patent Pen” Large plunger-fill in Red Mottled Hard Rubber. Extremely rare in Black, many, many times rarer in Red Mottled! A highly unusual pen with a unique filling mechanism! The barrel unscrews and removes to access the ink reservoir (which came both amber and clear) with its cork gasket. The pen fills on the pull stroke and a sliding seal moves out of the way on the push stroke so the ink doesn’t expel. Shown both closed and open. More information can be found by clicking here. Medium nib, with a tad of flex. In Lambrou’s 1989 book, he mentions that these pens were produced under license for T.B. Ford, Ltd. by the Wyverne Pen Company, a major UK pen manufacturer based in London. Medium, flexible nib. New-old-stock. Mint. The largest model made. You’ll never find a nicer example!

Item #3 in Catalog #85.

I have the same pen in bhr, measuring 15.9 cm, a huge pen, minty condition. I purchased this pen with a collection from London nearly 30 years ago and it has been stored in a collection for the past 30 years. A stunning pen in flawless condition. I also have the patent and diagrams of the pen from the Ford factory submitted with patent application. Some other articles and information about the factory, Valentine, bombing of the factory, etc. Any idea who can install a sac in this gorgeous pen?

Hi Bruce, the Fords Patent doesn’t use a bladder, per se, but is a “plunger-fill.” If you send it along to me I can take care of the restoration for you. Very best, Gary

Hello Janice, value depends on size, color, model and condition. It’s just too difficult to provide a value without this information. Perhaps you can send a photo to us at info.gopens@gmail.com. Thanks very much. Gary
