On Point With Go Pens #71

I left my pen inked for weeks and now there is gunky stuff on the nib!! What is that? What do I do? Leaving a pen inked for weeks is not the best pen care, but most pens can survive this every now and then. It’s likely nib creep – where the ink has dried out on the nib in a gross looking shape. It almost looks alive. If it’s the color of the ink …

Extraordinary Pens – DJ Kennedy Stylus

Take a look at this interesting pen! This is a 1993 DJ Kennedy “Stylus” shaped bulb-filler, by this famed artist and Sculptor, who produced pens by private order for Nieman Marcus. The pen is hand signed by the artist (on the very bottom of the barrel) as follows: “DJ Kennedy Completed 14 April 1993 No. 95.” Sterling silver repousse work and brass applique. The pen has a Waterman #2 nib (fine, extra-flexible). Curious? Here’s an article …

On Point With Go Pens #70

I bought a vintage pen at a flea market for $6. The seller didn’t know anything about it but it seems to work ok, except the nib has what I think is a crack in it. Is that possible? It’s very possible the nib is cracked. If you use a loupe to look at it, even smaller fractures can be visible. If this is the case, you can consider having your nib repaired by someone …

Extraordinary Pens – Pelikan 112 from 1933

This 1933 Pelikan 112 Piston-filler in 14K has a pinstriped and wavy line panels design. The barrel is visualated in amber celluloid. This is one of the rarest of the early Pelikans! The cap is adorned with applied 14K fancy repousse “KK” initials. How did I come into possession of this pen? I acquired the pen out of Poland and was told of a very interesting provenance. The pen was used by Baron Leopold Kronenberg, member …

On Point With Go Pens #69

The fine flexible nib on my pen keeps catching the paper when I’m writing, and then ink splatters everywhere. Sometimes the tines get misaligned. What am I doing wrong? With nibs that accommodate pressure, make sure you’re only applying light pressure on the downstroke, and no pressure on the upstroke. It’s usually pressure on the upstroke that causes fine, and other, nibs to get caught. This can cause ink splattering when the tines are caught …

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler

A 1910 Waterman with an unusual filling mechanism! This Waterman is a (5)12 SF “Sleeve-filler” in 14K Solid Gold “Filigree” pattern on black hard rubber. In-between the “Pump-filler” and “Coin-filler” Waterman produced the Sleeve-filler in 1910. A sleeve on the barrel slides downward to reveal a press bar used to fill the pen. A rare and wonderful example of this early Waterman filling mechanism. Barrel indicia engraved in Old-English script “TBM.” Broad, flexible, italic nib. A …
