1927 Waterman Set of nine (9) Red Ripple “Color Banded” pens in a rare store display. The “Black-banded” is the Holy Grail, with only about 10 known to exist. See below for a description of the display and each pen. Ten (10) items in total. For two days we will only sell the entire collection intact. Starting on day three we will sell the components individually. Order individually if you would like (first come, first served), and we will let you know on day 3 if you got your item. Just a suggestion: fill the single empty slot in the tray with the matching #7 Red Ripple pencil with its 2 GF bands at the top of the barrel.

1927 Waterman #7 Point of Purchase Display Tray designed for 10 pens. Extremely rare. The back panel with the original list of pens the tray was designed to display [Note that Black, Yellow, Grey, Blue and Green are not on the list – perhaps some insight into what were the most popular colors]. 1992 Montblanc Lorenzo De’Medici LE 3017/4910 with engine-turned panels (alternating barley and wave-chasing). One of the hardest to find of the Montblanc Limited Editions! Two-toned 18K fine nib. New-old-stock. Mint in original box with all papers, outer box and white cardboard sleeve. Box unsealed. The pen itself is still factory sealed inside its plastic bag, as shown in the photo. 1925 1926 Parker Duofold Sr. BF in “Pompeian Brown” Celluloid. In 1921 Parker produced a group of Pompeian Brown Hard Rubber Duofolds for test marketing by Lewis Tebbel (who first proposed the design of the Duofold). These Duofolds were also test marketed in Chicago, with accompanying newspaper ads describing the pen as “red brown” or ”maroon.” By early 1922 Parker switched production to the orange/cardinal we are familiar with, calling it “Chinese Red” in their advertising. The example here was very likely made in 1925. The material is celluloid (Parker started using Celluloid in 1925) rather than hard rubber, it has the “medium size” DUOFOLD barrel imprint (made smaller in 1926), the large “Lucky Curve” banner and a single raised cap band (made level with the cap in 1927). Now why did Parker produce Duofolds in 1925 in Pompeian Brown, years after switching all Duofold production to “Chinese Red?” Shepherd & Zazove’s wonderful book, Parker Duofold, explains (p.128) that “…after the transition to celluloid many other color combinations were tried…and were not used as mainstream production.” Then the first color swatch shown is [Pompeian] “Brown!” So, the pen offered here is one of a small run of Pompeian Brown Duofolds produced in 1925 as a possible color to market, but was rejected and no more were made. Parker produced the Duofold Sr., Junior and Sr. Desk Pen in Pompeian Brown. GFT. Only six (6) Duofold Sr. in Pompeian Brown are known to exist. Fine nib. New-old-stock. Slight color shift where the barrel is protected by the cap, a small scratch in the “Duofold” imprint and a small flake missing from the plastic in the “F,” otherwise mint. Un-saced to protect the color. On request I’ll install a silicone sac.

1952 Parker/Cartier 51 cartridge/converter-fill in 18K solid gold “Basket-weave” pattern. Cartier Serial Number 00749. Since 1840, Cartier has sold its especial wares worldwide to royalty and other discerning customers. This pen is no exception. Manufactured by Parker for Cartier, the design is remarkable. Black gripping section. Broad, oblique nib (shaped like left foot). Near mint+.

1948 Parker 51 Vacumatic in Nassau Green (rare color). 14K Solid Yellow and Pink Gold Empire Cap (rare cap), clip and bottom tasse. Double-broad, oblique nib (shaped like left foot). Near mint+ with very deep and crisp barrel imprint. Matching pencil below.

1948 Parker 51 Vacumatic Pencil in Nassau Green (rare color). 14K Solid Yellow and Pink Gold Empire Cap (rare cap), clip and nozzle. Twist-activated. Near mint+. Matching pen above.

1969 Parker 61 Presidential ‘CARIOQUINHA’ capillary-fill in 18K Gold in “Alternating Barley & Plain Panels.” Turquoise gripping section The clip markings (“18K” and “CP” in an oval), attribute the cap and barrel to the famous Rio De Janeiro, Brazil goldsmith, Celestino Praça. In the 1950/60’s Praça was already very well known for his fabulous 18K Parker 51 caps & barrels when the 61 was introduced. Because the 61 itself did not sell as well as the 51, he made very few 61 cap & barrel combinations. This scarcity enhances it’s value today. Broad nib. Near mint.

1935 Soennecken Prasident BF in Black. GFT. The very rare, first year Prasident with the bulbous cap lip. Visualated barrel. To access the filler button, the sleeve on the bottom of the barrel retracts by turning anticlockwise. The pen uses a filler tube (like a Parker Vacumatic) so several pushes of the white casein button completely fills the pen. Large medium/broad nib. Near mint+

1916 1916 Parker #20 Jack Knife Safety “Nurse’s Pen” in smooth Black Hard Rubber and GF ribbon-ring. An early example of niche marketing. All other BF black Parker pens had matching black blind caps. The Nurse’s pen came with a contrasting red (cardinal) blind cap. Extremely rare! Fine nib. Large Lucky Curve banner. Signs of use. Cap and barrel imprint with wear, but fully readable, otherwise near mint.

1947 VS BF in Dove Grey. “VS” stands for “Vacumatic Successor” and was introduced in 1946. Designed as a Parker 51 look-a-like but with a full, open nib. Produced in at least 7 colors. Brushed Lustraloy (stainless steel) cap. Fine nib, this example set on a transparent, acrylic feed. New-old-stock. Mint. 

1967 Parker 75 “Keepsake” cartridge/converter-fill in smooth Sterling Silver. Designed for the owner to have a record of important dates and events engraved into the pen. The Keepsake was also offered in solid gold. It never caught on and were discontinued the following year, making them extremely rare today. GFT. Medium nib. New-old-stock. Mint. Converter included.

1975 Parker 45 Harlequin acid etched “Grey Shield” cartridge/converter-fill in stainless steel. Production was very difficult and the Harlequin was short lived and very rare today. Alloy nib. Medium nib. New-old-stock. Mint. Converter included.

1923 Parker Duofold Sr. BF in Black Chased Hard Rubber. One of the rarest Duofolds. GFT. Fine nib. New-old-stock. Mint.

1927 Parker Duofold Sr. BF in Green Permanite. The first color introduced by Parker after cardinal (red). GFT. 1926 models did not have “Duofold” imprinted on the barrel. Parker hedged their bets by protecting the “Duofold” name should the green color fail in the marketplace. It succeeded, and Parker soon added “Duofold” to the barrel imprint. Medium/fine nib. Two things of note: first, the early examples, like this one, are far more translucent than the later versions and second, Jade Duofolds are almost always found highly discolored this example has close to perfect color. 1929 1929 Parker Duofold Sr. BF in Black & Pearl Moderne. This pen came to me by way of a retired Parker employee. Nib & clip marked “Parker” while the barrel is factory imprinted “Diamond Medal.” Shepherd & Zazove’s book, Parker Vacumatic, explains (p.110) that Parker supplied pens for Sears to sell under the “Diamond Medal” brand. This pen was produced and imprinted for that purpose, but instead wound up with a Parker Duofold nib and clip and in the collection of a Parker employee. Fine nib with correct comb feed. New-old-stock, absolutely mint. Un-saced to protect the color. On request I’ll install a silicone sac.

1938 Parker Sr. Maxima Vacumatic set in Golden Laminated. GFT. Pen & pencil barrel each engraved “R. E. Stehman BDMSTR USS Yorktown” (I originally thought “BDMSTR” meant”Bombardier Master.” but a WWII historian and expert explains that it stands for “BANDMASTER”). R.E. Stehman was deployed to this famous aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1937, which was heavily damaged and sunk by the Japanese in the battle of Midway in June 1942. Yorktown played an important part in the battle, assisting in the destruction of multiple enemy aircraft carriers, and absorbing the majority of enemy counter attacks (source: Wikipedia). The US Navy won the battle of Midway with very heavy losses to the Japanese, and it largely marked the end of the Japanese Imperial navy. Double jeweled. Two-tone medium nib. Near mint.

1940 Parker Junior Vacumatic in Golden Laminated. Double jeweled. The “Junior” is essentially the same pen as the Major with different cap bands, but was sold without the guarantee, at a lower price, so Parker could capture a different price point in the marketplace. Fine nib. Near mint+

1941 Parker Sr, Maxima Vacumatic in Blue Laminated (quite rare). Double jeweled (rare, only made for one year). GFT. Two-tone medium/broad nib. Near mint.

1937 Parker Sr. Maxima Deluxe Vacumatic in Black. Double jeweled. The Deluxe models sport a wide, horizontally chased cap band. Sold to jewelry stores so they had pens which did not compete with the pen stores. GFT. Two-tone medium/fine nib. Cap band indicia engraved, “A.F.” New-old-stock. Mint.

A few minor scratches in the blind cap caused by the cap clutch when posting the cap, noticeable with a loop, otherwise near mint.

1943 Parker 51 Vacumatic set in Black. 1943 51s are extremely rare, with Parker’s plant having been converted to produce bomb sights and other items for the war effort. The vast majority of the small 51 production went to PX’s. for sale. Double jeweled. Cap in 1/10 16K GF alternating 4 Pinstripe and Plain panels. Fine nib. 1949 Parker 51 Signet Aerometric in 1/10 14K Gold-filled, alternating 3 pinstripe and plain panels. Medium nib. User grade; the pen is unused (perfectly clean plyglass) but the cap and barrel both have minor dents and dings.

1954 1954 Parker 61 Prototype fountain pen in Black. This prototype has “61″ die cut into the nib and also in the inlaid barrel bottom tasse. Fills by dipping the bottom end of the barrel into the ink (no need to open the barrel). The die cut in the nib also functions as the vent hole for the ink/air exchange. Was test marketed by Parker with the ultimate decision to instead market the model with the capillary wick which is accessed by removing the barrel. This design was also produced in Blue, Grey, Blood Red and as a Demonstrator. Brushed Lustraloy (stainless steel) cap with prototype GF clip. Extra-fine nib. New-old-stock. Mint.

1957 Parker 61 “Instant Ink” capsule in original packaging. Plug the capsule onto the end of the capillary filler, put it into water, and the 61 draws the water right up through the capsule (crating ink) into the wick. Date approximate. New-old-stock. Mint in original packaging. Not a prototype, but an a marketed Parker product [10 Available – two sold].

1972 1972 Parker Prototype T-1 cartridge/converter-fill in brushed Stainless Steel [perhaps an “S-1″ rather than a “T-1”(?)]. Adjustment screw on the underside of the nib. Has the T-1’s red end jewels. The barrel still with the Parker Prototype Shop tag. Fine nib. New-old-stock. Aerometric converter. Mint.

1949 Mabie Todd Swan #6 Leverless in Dark Blue. The Leverless is not a traditional twist-filler, but more like winding a watch. Turning the bottom knob one way causes a metal bar attached to the knob inside the barrel to rotate and squeeze the bladder. Rotating it back allows the bladder to draw up the ink. 1934 Wahl Eversharp Bantam Bulb-filler in Green Pearl Swirl. A high quality ‘Miniature Doric’ introduced by Wahl during the depression for customers who couldn’t afford a more normal size pen, which came in an array of colors and trim design. GPT. Some came with a 14K nib, others with a plated nib, so two price points could be captured with the pen. This example with a 14K, medium/fine, flexible nib. Near mint.

1939 Wahl Eversharp Doric Gold-Seal Personal Point Vacuum-fill set in Black. The “Gold-Seal” was Wahl’s top-of-the-line, guaranteed pens. The “Personal Point” models use a screw-in/out nib assembly so the dealer could easily provide whatever nib the customer preferred. GFT. Visualated barrel. Fine, extra-flexible nib. Just a whisper of brassing to bottom edge of the pen cap band, otherwise near mint+.

The black celluloid #7s didn’t have a color band in the cap, but use circular inserts in the barrel bottom in the color of the nib. This one of course is pink. 1910 “The Youth’s Companion Boston, Mass” is imprinted on the barrel of this #2 size eyedropper-fill in smooth Black Hard Rubber. The other side of the barrel says “Jennie E. Bell,” certainty the owner. The pen is obviously connected to The Youth’s Companionmagazine, published in Boston, MA from 1827 to 1929, when it merged with The American Boy magazine. Perhaps a contest award or a pen marketed by the magazine. Sports an accommodation clip. Broad, semi-flexible nib. Near mint.

1925 Conklin #2 LF in Black Chased Hard Rubber. GFT. Conklin (Toledo, Oh) was famous for the “Crescent-filler” but was losing market share to the lever-fill Sheaffer pen and decided to market a lever-fill pen (the first model being the Duragraph in 1923). Medium/fine, flexible nib. New-old-stock. Mint .

1905 Houston #2 eyedropper-fill ring-top in Black Lined Hard Rubber. Beautiful chasing in ‘Like-new” condition. Exceptionally long, made to hang on a neck chain or chatelaine, where the cap remains when the pen is in use. Sioux City, Iowa based. Around 1911, Houston added a lever and the pen became the “Snap-fill.” Medium, extra-flexible right-oblique nib (shaped like left foot). New-old-stock. Mint.

1895 “Franklin Pen” straight-holder eyedropper-fill in uniquely designed Black Lined Hard Rubber. A Philadelphia, PA based company founded in the late 1800’s (this could be one of their first pens). Overfeed design. Franklin pens are extremely hard to find. The company did almost no advertising outside of Philadelphia and sold primarily through their showroom and a small number of jobbers. 1926 Haro I eyedropper-fill retractable nib Safety pen in smooth Black Hard Rubber. What makes this pen special is the TWISTED GLASS NIB (medium). Nickle-plate clip. Haro was founded in 1926 (Germany) and their first pens were the Haro I and Haro II. (Note: The Spors Pen Company, with its glass nib, was founded in the US by a cousin of the owner of Hero.) The company is still in business, since around 1950 concentrating only on manufacturing paper and stationary. Medium nib. Near mint. Shown open with nib propelled.

1917 Moore #2.50/1 eyedropper-fill Safety pen in Black Chased Hard Rubber. Founded in 1899 (Boston, MA) the company began as the American Fountain Company, changing its name around 1917, and surviving until 1956. Medium nib, New-old-stock. Mint.

1895 Neverblot Fountain Pen #2 size taper-cap eyedropper-fill in Smooth Black Hard Rubber. Two wide GF repousse bands on the barrel. Located in Rochester, NY. In their July 10, 1915 issue,Puckmagazine reports that the French government is negotiating a $10,000,000 order with the Neverblot Pen Co. for machine guns and hand grenades, and selected them because of the company’s high degree of precision manufacturing. Not only do the pens not flood, have a screw cap, but a gyroscope arrangement sounds a whistle just before it runs out of ink. (The pen offered here does not have such a mechanism, but is earlier than the screw cap pen discussed in the article), The article concludes by reporting that the pen company eventually accepted the contract and switched production out of fountain pens because of “its duty to humanity and to the Stars and Stripes as the flag of a neutral nation.” “Warranted” extra-fine, flexible nib Near mint+.

1905 Mabie Todd Swan #2 eyedropper-fill in Black Chased Hard rubber. Accommodation clip sighed “CLIPPER M T & Co. Made in England.” Barrel imprinted “”Property of N.Y. Telephone Company.” Mabie Todd was founded in NY (1860) and production of their “Swan” (their top-of-the-line model) pens started in the late 1880s. Extra-fine, italic nib. Near mint.

1908 Mabie Todd Swan #5 Model 5500 Straight holder eyedropper PLUG-FILL in Black Hard Rubber – smooth cap and chased barrel. Medium nib with gold overfeed and hard rubber under-feed with wide center channel. Protruding from the back end of the under-feed into the barrel is 3.5″ of sterling silver wire which is attached to a plug inside the feed. The top end of the wire had a plug which allows the wire to be raised above the feed without opening the barrel, and the pen to be filled through the wide feed channel. 1910 Parker #20 ½ Jack Knife Safety Turban-top eyedropper-fill in Black Chased Hard Rubber. The company was founded in 1888 (Janesville, WI). Their original claim to fame was the :”Lucky Curve Feed, designed to draw excess ink back into the pen’s barrel when the pen was not being used. The Jack Knife Safety was introduced in 1909, a pen with a screw-on cap designed to prevent ink leakage. The cap had an “inner-cap: which butted up to the gripping section so any ink leakage would be into the inner cap rather than the outer cap. The first models had the “Turban-top” as this pen has. The JKS sold very, very well. Extra-fine, semi-flexible nib. New-old-stock. Mint.

1950 Parker 51 Special Double Desk Set with (2) Parker 51 Aerometric-fill desk pens. 15″ x 7″ by 3/4″. The black glass base is decorated with a large brass surface under the trumpets, an oval plaque (not engraved) and a 3 3/4″ round barometer (you’ll never have a reason for not knowing if it’s going to rain tomorrow!). Pens are new-old-stock, with no signs of ink in either plyglass bladder. Near mint+. Would look outstanding on your desk! Photo of desk set close-up.

1960 Parker Jotter D-2 “Memo” Desk Set in Brown molded plastic. 11″ x 4.5″ x 1″ with original cork “feet” on the bottom. Base has a storage compartment with a removable lid, a recess for note paper (original note paper included), and an area of 56 small molded squares. Each of these squares can store a ballpen upright. Includes two matching jotter desk pens. New-old-stock. Mint in box with outer sleeve. The label on the box tells us that this is “Jotter Memo Desk Set No. 31-4211″ and the original price in 1960 was $10.00.” Photo of desk set with packaging.

1875 Anonymous Triple Inkwell in Wood with hinged lid. 8.5″ x 5″ x 2″. Raising the hinged lid reveals three original glass inserts. Plaques in front of each inkwell read: “Copying,” “Red” and “Black” for the three different inks the user would have had on hand. The front of the base with a milled recess to hold the pens.
