Lancaster Government Pen - Vintage Pen

Some vintage pens are more than 100 years old! Take this Lancaster for example... The 1882 Lancaster #7 “Government Pen” eyedropper-fill in Black Chased Hard Rubber. Warren Lancaster started in 1879, and many say his was the first successful fountain pen, a claim more commonly associated with LE Waterman. Interestingly, Lancaster blames the demise of his business on LE, following Waterman’s contracting with the Day Rubber Co for all its production. Early on his biggest customers were J.P Morgan Co. And the Federal Government, hence the “Government Pen.” Large #7 medium, triple-flexible nib. Near mint+. Item #87 in Catalog #82.
